Paramount officially confirms that Taylor Sheridan and Peter Berg will co-write the script for the live-action adaptation of the military shooter Call of Duty. Additionally, Berg, who is known for his work in Battleship, Lone Survivor, and Hancock, is also set to direct the film.
As per the official press release, the film is meant to satisfy fans of the franchise by “delivering on the hallmarks of what fans love about the iconic series”. Paramount also intends to expand the franchise to welcome audiences who are new to the franchise.
The press release further details that the two are lifelong friends, having previously worked on a film called Hell or High Water back in 2016, which was nominated for several awards but never managed to secure one. As mentioned earlier, Berg is no stranger to the military shooter genre, which makes him an apt choice for the directorial role. On the other hand, Sheridan is known more for his thriller and crime films, such as Wind River, Without Remorse, and Those Who Wish Me Dead.
For those who are not up to speed, Variety reported that Paramount signed a film deal with Activision to bring the popular shooter to the big screen earlier in September. The publication also reported that the deal allows Paramount to “expand the CoD universe across film and TV.”

Paramount did not mention any plot details for the upcoming film, nor did it confirm if it will be tied to an existing Call of Duty title. The company also did not share when the film will officially go into production. Perhaps we will hear more about it in the coming months.
