Malaysia’s aviation landscape is set to expand with the arrival of Ascend Airways Malaysia, which has officially secured its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and Air Service Permit (ASP) from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM). With these approvals in hand, the Kuala Lumpur-based airline is preparing to begin operations this November, starting with freight services via its first Boeing 737-800SF aircraft. Passenger services are expected to commence in the first quarter of 2026, pending further regulatory clearance.
The new carrier is a subsidiary of Avia Solutions Group, an Irish-headquartered global aviation company that provides aircraft, crew, maintenance, and insurance (ACMI) services. The group currently operates 187 aircraft across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Ascend Airways Malaysia’s official website and Facebook page are now live for those interested in learning more about its operations.
According to Ascend Airways Malaysia CEO Germal Singh Khera, the airline plans to focus on ACMI and charter services for both passenger and cargo operations across Malaysia and Southeast Asia. The company’s goal is to deliver flexible ACMI solutions to support Malaysia’s expanding aviation market, where passenger traffic is forecasted to grow between 8.4% and 15.6% in 2025, reaching up to 112.9 million passengers. He added that the country’s strategic location between Southeast Asia, China, and India positions it as a key logistics and aviation hub.
Ascend Airways Malaysia’s establishment aligns with the parent company’s seasonal flexibility strategy, first announced in July 2024. The initiative aims to balance flight demand between the UK and Southeast Asia, allowing the group to shift capacity between markets during peak and off-peak seasons. The approach will be supported by shared systems, a common fleet, and the liberal air services agreement between Malaysia and the UK, which permits fifth to ninth freedom flights and wet or damp leasing arrangements.

Meanwhile, CAAM CEO Datuk Captain Norazman Mahmud said the issuance of the AOC and ASP reflected Ascend Airways Malaysia’s success in meeting the authority’s stringent certification standards. He also commended the airline for its diligence throughout the process.
