Suunto had announced the latest addition to its adventure-focused smartwatch lineup, the Vertical 2, late last month. It brings several hardware and software upgrades over its predecessor, including a larger display, refined tracking sensors, and expanded safety tools. Now, it appears that the new wearable is slated to arrive in Malaysia in the very near future.
Like the original Vertical, the newer model is built to withstand tough conditions, featuring sapphire glass, 100-metre water resistance, and three physical buttons for glove-friendly operation. Newly added this time around is a built-in LED flashlight with adjustable brightness, a red-light mode for night vision, and SOS or alert functions for emergency use.
The most visible change is the switch from the previous MIP panel to a 1.5-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 466×466 and peak brightness of up to 2000 nits. The watch’s new display is touted to offer sharper detail and improved visibility in sunlight, though it comes at the cost of the predecessor’s solar charging support. The Vertical 2 will be available in stainless steel (All Black, Arctic Gray, Canyon, and Pine Green) and titanium (Titanium Black and Titanium Sage) variants, each bundled with matching silicone straps.
Suunto has also refined its fitness and training suite on the Vertical 2. The new AI Coach automatically adjusts workout plans based on user activity, recovery, and goals, while metrics like Training Stress Score, Recovery Score, VO2 Max, and Cumulative Load provide detailed performance feedback.
The company adds that the updated optical heart rate sensor promises faster and more accurate readings, particularly during high-intensity or cold-weather sessions. Other features include blood oxygen levels, sleep and daily activity tracking, along with over 115 sport modes, weather alerts, altitude readings, and sunrise/sunset data.
For navigation and mapping, the Vertical 2 supports free offline maps directly on-device, displaying contour lines and terrain features without requiring a phone connection. A new Climb Guidance feature gives real-time gradient data and elevation profiles, while Quick Start Navigation lets users adjust routes on the go without pausing tracking.
Battery-wise, Suunto claims the Vertical 2 can deliver up to 65 hours of continuous tracking in dual-band GNSS mode. In smartwatch mode and with always-on display disabled, it is promised to last around 20 days.
While the Vertical 2 is slated for release on 15 October in the US, its availability for the local market is still undetermined. However, pricing for the new smartwatch are already shown on Suunto Malaysia’s website, with the stainless steel variant priced at RM2,999 and the titanium at RM3.499, indicating that a local launch could happen very soon. For now, both versions are listed as out of stock.
