Earlier in the year, ASUS launched the Fragrance Mouse, because someone thought it would be a good idea. More recently, it looks like fellow Taiwanese brand Apacer has thought the same, and has contributed something similar to the tech industry. This comes in the form of the limited edition AS712 portable SSD, which comes with an “essential oil diffuser”.
Apacer says that this is a world’s first, and we have no real reason to dispute it. The company also describes its product as letting you “experience productivity with a touch of relaxation”. Which sounds like mutually exclusive ideas. But for what it’s worth, it’s made with sustainability as well, with recycled materials and bamboo being used.

The Apacer AS712 portable SSD comes with a cradle of sorts, on which you’ll find a diffuser stone. To use it as intended, you drip between one and two drops of essential oil on the diffuser stone, and enjoy your aromatherapy. The cradle is not strictly required, as you can connect the SSD directly to your PC. Used this way, you drip the same amount of oil onto the drive housing’s bamboo surface instead.

Esoteric features aside, the Apacer AS712 portable SSD has a capacity of 1TB. Read and write speeds of up to 1,000 MB/s and 900 MB/s respectively, with the USB-C port connecting via USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface. While the company has given the drive a three-year warranty, it hasn’t given it a price or availability date.
