One safeguard to ensure that the RM1.99 per litre BUDI95 subsidised petrol it doesn’t get misused has been announced. Citing Finance Minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan, The Star reports that individuals are limited to refuelling at the subsidised price once a day.
The minister says “the mechanism will not allow multiple fills in one day. Full details of these controls will be announced later”. He also adds that the Finance Ministry and the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) are working with oil companies to deploy monitoring tools to track purchases. This will also allow suspicious patterns to be flagged.

Amir Hamzah also expanded on e-hailing drivers’ exemption from the monthly 300l limit for all other citizens under BUDI95. He says that the system in place will cross-check with e-hailing platforms to ensure genuine usage. This will ensure that the higher allocations go to the drivers who actually need the subsidised petrol.
As an aside, the minister says that petrol companies have been upgrading their pumps and counters since late last year to meet the 30 September deadline. With this, “all companies have confirmed readiness, and their systems are now active”. Though he urged motorists to also be patient with teething issues that may arise from the nationwide rollout.
