Tired of waiting for a marginally less congested train just so you can hop on and go to work? Well, Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd will be introducing a real-time train crowd monitoring system soon. This monitoring system will allow passengers to identify which train coaches are full or less crowded before the train arrives on the platform.
Bernama cites Rapid Rail’s acting chief executive officer Nor Azmi Mohd Yusof as saying that this is a means of alleviating commuter woes. “With this system, passengers will know in advance which coaches are full and which have more space. It will allow them to queue more comfortably and efficiently at the correct platform door,” he said.

Furthermore, the acting CEO also mentioned they have plans of upgrading its CCTV system and transforming them into AI-based CCTV across all its facilities. This improved monitoring system will reportedly be more capable of detecting suspicious behaviours, spotting weapons, and even identifying men in women-only coaches.
Nor Azmi mentioned that the Rapid Rail company wants to especially protect women, as they make up 60% of the company’s daily ridership. Additionally, he also said that women’s coaches are already a fixture in MRT Kajang and Putrajaya lines, also in Ampang and Sri Petaling LRT lines.

At the same time, the acting CEO also took the time to address the public and their concern over potential fare hikes. He elaborated that the fare adjustments are not under Rapid Rail’s jurisdiction and that it would require the approval from the Ministry of Transport.
“Any changes to fare would be the result of negotiations with the ministry. But as of now there has been no directive from the ministry or from Prasarana. So no worries, fares remain unchanged”.
