Great Wall Motors (GWM) has announced the debut of the right-hand drive (RHD) Wey 9 (also known as the Wey 80) for the Malaysian market. Positioned as a direct rival to the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire, the MPV will also be offered as a locally assembled (CKD) model.
The plug-in hybrid MPV was recently previewed at the Paultan.org Premium Auto Car Expo (PACE), and is revealed to feature a longer wheelbase compared to the model that is available in China. Up front, it features a bold grille with chrome accents, flanked by slim, angular LED headlights with integrated daytime running lights. The sculpted bumper further enhances its premium appearance.
At the rear, the Wey 9 sports a full-width LED light bar, complemented by vertical LED taillights for a striking visual signature. Chrome detailing and a roof spoiler complete the upscale design.
According to Paultan.org, the seven-seater cabin has been updated with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch infotainment system. However, unlike the China-market model, which comes with a dual-screen configuration, the Malaysian version will only be offered with a single-screen setup. Additionally, the second-row zero-gravity captain chairs have been redesigned. They now feature physical seat adjustment controls, conveniently positioned on the forward edge of the inner armrests of both seats.

As for the performance, the MPV is equipped with the Hi4 all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid system, which combines a 156 PS 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a 177 PS front electric motor, and a 183 PS rear motor. Together, they deliver a total system output of 487 PS, supported by a 37.96 kWh battery that provides up to 140 km of electric range (CLTC-rated).
For now, these are the details available on the GWM Wey 9 and, as usual, the price of the car is still unavailable. However, with the automaker announcing the debut of the MPV, more information on the specifications of the car will be revealed soon.
