WhatsApp has been on a pretty hot streak when it comes to testing and rolling out features in recent times. More recently, it looks like the Meta subsidiary is testing letting iOS users put in Live Photos on chats, as well as groups and channels that they are in.
As usual, this comes from WABetaInfo. The feature itself should be self explanatory. But if you’re not an iOS user or don’t much fancy motion photos on Android, it’s basically a clip of of 1.5 seconds before and after the actual shot was taken. So it’s more a very short clip plus the photo in question. Of course, users can still choose to only send the photo portion if they prefer.

Not that you couldn’t send Live photos before, but it would instead just be displayed on WhatsApp as a static image. WABetaInfo also says that the chat platform is testing the equivalent features on both Android and iOS, there’s cross-platform compatibility. Meaning Android users will see Live Photos as motion photos, and vice versa. Worth mentioning that the above was tested just about a month earlier.
WABetaInfo claims the feature is found in the beta version of WhatsApp iOS 25.24.10.72. It’s being rolled out to a number of beta testers, with a possible general rollout “over the coming weeks”. Though no specific window was provided.
