Earlier today ahead of IFA 2025, Acer launched a lineup of new products, chief among them being the new Predator Helios 18P AI laptop. And despite the lineup it falls under, it seems to be more than a gaming laptop.
Underneath the hood, the 18P AI boasts an Intel Core Ultra 9 285HX with the chipmaker’s vPro system, providing an extra added layer of security. The one component that really tells you that this isn’t your average “gaming” laptop is its ability to support ECC DDR5 memory, and up to 192GB of it, to boot.
The GPU nestling inside this portable beast is obviously an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series GPU and more specifically, Acer is offering up to an RTX 5090 with the 18P AI. As a reminder, NVIDIA has since opened up its more consumer-centric GPUs to both its GeForce and Studio drivers, depending on the use case scenario.
Other internal details of the 18P AI include a up to 6TB of PCIe 5.0 storage, Thunderbolt 5 support, Killer Ethernet E5000B, and Wi-Fi 7. As with all other brands, Acer continues to boast about its proprietary cooling solution that keeps all the components cool. This model gets dual 6th Generation AeroBlade metal fans, vector heat pipes, and a liberal dousing of liquid metal on top of both CPU and GPU.
Serving to output all that power is a large 18-inch Mini LED display. Specs-wise, it’s a 4K+ WQUXGA panel with a 16:10 aspect ratio, along with a peak HDR brightness of 1000 nits and 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut.
There’s still no local pricing or availability of the Acer Predator Helios 18P AI, but it goes without saying that this laptop won’t come cheap, even in its base configuration, whatever that may be. On a related note we did ask Acer if it planned on releasing a variant of the Predator laptop running on AMD’s current Zen5 CPUs. The answer, according to Jerry Kao, Acer’s Chief Operating Officer, that’s because at current, the current market share for laptop is still leaning in Intel’s favour – the blue chipmaker still dominates between 75% and 80% of the laptop market.
