It has been some time since now Google has officially unveiled its Pixel 10 series during its Made by Google event. If you’ve tuned in on the broadcast, you’d notice that the company is doing its best to steal away Apple’s userbase by introducing similar features and accessories. And if, by any chance, users would like to swap the iPhone for the Pixel, Google is introducing a special tool to make the jump easier.
This tool is called the “Pixel Head Start” or “Head Start” for short and it’s designed to eliminate the hassle of transferring to the new Google flagship. Though this function is largely focused on iPhone users, Google is extending this tool to Android users to increase and potentially expedite Pixel 10 adoption.
For iPhone, Head Start will guide users to sync their photos, videos, and passwords for apps and services to the cloud for users to download via the Pixel 10 device when it arrives. Afterwards, users are instructed to download Google Photos for a full backup as well as export their log-in details from Safari to Google Password Manager.
Naturally, not all data can be transferred, and users will need a USB-C to USB-C cable, which comes included with the Pixel 10, to help facilitate the rest of the data migration. Here, the tool will offer a broad overview of what data can be transferred via cable. Afterwards, Head Start will also provide several guides on how to use and maximise the Pixel 10 device.
The same applies for Android users, but Head Start will instead make use of your Google account to see if Android’s backup options are already enabled. If they are, the tool will just say “that’s all for now.”
For the longest time, Android and iPhone users have enjoyed seamless data transfer between each other, which has been steadily improving. However, it is also these kinds of tools that lock users into a singular ecosystem. Though its primary focus is the Pixel 10 series, Head Start does offer a convenient way for users to dip their toes into something new in an attempt to make serious headway in an already saturated market.
