WhatsApp has introduced a new feature called Writing Help, giving users the ability to rephrase their messages with AI-powered suggestions while keeping privacy intact. The tool, powered by Meta’s Private Processing technology, lets users adjust the tone of their messages before sending them.
The option appears as a pencil icon next to the chat field, and tapping it provides alternative drafts of a message. WhatsApp assures that all processing is handled privately, and neither it nor Meta can see or store the content of the messages or the AI’s suggestions.

The platform adds that the new feature is optional and disabled by default. Users who want to try it must enable it in their settings, after which the aforementioned pencil icon will appear on their chats. Additionally, WhatsApp says the AI will remain idle and does not process any text until it is actually activated by the user.
Writing Help is being released first in English across the United States and a handful of other regions, with more languages and countries to be added later in the year. A check on the current WhatsApp versions for Android and iOS shows that the feature has not yet rolled out in Malaysia.
