Grab users in Malaysia were caught off guard earlier today when the platform’s e-hailing service displayed unusually high fares. Several users took to social media to share screenshots showing ride prices starting at over RM500, with some exceeding RM1,000—even for short trips.
One user, @zheepzorp on X, revealed that their JustGrab ride from an apartment to a nearby hospital in Melaka was quoted at RM507.30, while Saver, Standard Six-Seater, and Standard Plus were priced at RM505.30, RM553.30, and RM550.30 respectively. Another user, Fareez Aiman, shared that a Standard JustGrab ride within the Klang Valley was quoted at RM1,529.30.
The glitch reportedly began around 11am and was resolved by the afternoon. In response to our query, Grab issued the following statement:
We encountered a temporary system issue that led to abnormally high prices being wrongly displayed in our app. The issue has been resolved, and the app is now functioning as usual. We deeply regret the inconvenience caused.
Grab did not specify the root cause of the problem, and there have been no new reports spotted so far.
Thanks Naim Amir for the tip!
