Proton launched the new X50 late last month. Since then, the national carmaker says that over 2,000 units have been delivered to customers. Now, the company is making it just a bit more enticing than before. In partnership with Touch ‘n Go, every new X50 will be pre-fitted with an RFID tag at the production line. And this applies to all variants of the car.
The two companies made the announcement following the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing, which happened at the Proton Centre of Excellence HQ in Shah Alam. Praba Sangarajoo, CEO of Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd, said that “it’s a move driven by purpose to create more seamless experiences for the people we serve”.
Notably though, “there is scope to extend the partnership between the two companies to other models in the Proton range”. Zhang Qiang, Deputy CEO of Proton Edar, says that the company “is looking to extend the fitment of Touch ‘n Go RFID tags to other models to offer an improved level of convenience”. So if the X50 is not for you, you are not completely locked out of the benefit of this convenience.
That being said, the companies did not identify any potential model to be getting RFID tags right out the bat. The companies also did not provide a timeline as to when new announcements of this nature will be made.
