BlackBerry has announced a major expansion of its Secure Communications division’s Asia Pacific (APAC) headquarters in Malaysia, signalling a deeper long-term commitment to both the country and the wider ASEAN region. The move comes after the successful launch of the MCMC–BlackBerry Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (CCoE) in Cyberjaya in March 2024.
The expansion sees BlackBerry scale its operations across three key locations: Cyberjaya, central Kuala Lumpur, and Mont Kiara. It includes a new sales and marketing office, along with a dedicated Regional Support Centre staffed by more than 50 technical experts. This team will provide 24/7 technical support and professional services to clients across the Asia Pacific.
According to the company, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) welcomed the move, calling it a step towards deeper public–private partnerships. The regulator said the expansion strengthens the country’s ability to safeguard government, critical infrastructure, and industries against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
The announcement also builds on other recent initiatives aimed at positioning Malaysia as a regional cybersecurity hub. In November 2024, the government of Canada pledged CAD3.9 million (~RM12 million) in multi-year funding for cybersecurity training at the Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence. The first phase of this programme will roll out in November this year with the globally recognised Certifications for Leadership in Cybersecurity (CLIC) course.

In addition, BlackBerry revealed that its partnership with the International Council of E-Commerce Consultants (EC-Council) will soon offer self-paced learning courses for Malaysian civil servants. This aims to strengthen national cyber capabilities and readiness.
