OpenAI has unveiled GPT-5, its newest AI model. As previously promised, GPT-5 is available for all ChatGPT users. According to the company, the new model boasts upgrades across the board, with enhanced performance in terms of coding, writing, and health.
One noteworthy change is the unified system that rolls multiple models into one. This means that a user does not need to specifically select the “Think Longer” option when they want to make use of the chatbot’s higher reasoning capabilities. GPT-5 integrates a real-time router to determine which model is suitable for the query. This is based on conversation type, complexity, tool needs, and even the user’s intent.
As for the model’s actual performance, OpenAI claims that it is both faster and more accurate. Aside from that, it is supposedly less likely to make stuff up. Of course, time will tell if this assertion actually holds water, but with hallucinations being such a common issue plaguing AI chatbots, any meaningful improvement would be welcome.
On the coding end, the model is said to perform better in complex front‑end generation and debugging larger repositories. In addition to this, OpenAI has improved the model’s writing capabilities, allowing ChatGPT to better assist users in drafting and editing. As for health-related queries, GPT-5 is more proactive and will flag concerns.
OpenAI also claims that GPT-5 is its safest model to date. The company has introduced a new feature called safe completions, which lets ChatGPT offer the most helpful answer without crossing any safety boundaries. If the bot must refuse answering a question, it will provide an explanation for this refusal and offer alternatives.
GPT-5 serves as the new default in ChatGPT, replacing the company’s previous models for logged-in users. The model is currently being rolled out to all Plus, Pro, Team, and Free users. Enterprise and Edu users will receive the model next week. Of course, paying subscribers will have unlimited uses of the model and can access a more advanced Pro variant. Meanwhile, free users will transition to GPT-5 mini once they’ve reached the usage limits.
