Omoda & Jaecoo Malaysia have teased the debut of two new models through an event announcement. The two models include the Omoda C9 PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid) and the Jaecoo J5. According to the announcement, it seems that both these cars will be showcased for the first time in Malaysia during the Omoda & Jaecoo Carnival, which will be held at Desa ParkCity from 21 to 24 August.

The Omoda C9 PHEV retains much of the design and character of its petrol-powered counterpart, sharing the same coupe-like roofline, full-width LED light at the front fascia, full-width segmented taillights, and 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. Visually, the key differences include a split front air intake and a charging port located on the passenger side.

Inside, the cabin remains largely unchanged, showcasing flowing organic lines and a widescreen display panel housing dual 12.3-inch screens. It also features a tall centre console with stylish silver air-conditioning and drive mode knobs, along with plush quilted leather seats.

In terms of the powertrain, it has most likely adopted the company’s Super Hybrid System (SHS), as it features a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. As for the electric motors, the model that debuted in South Africa has four electric motors, and together the hybrid powertrain produces 440kW and 915Nm of torque.

It is powered by a 34.5kWh battery that offers a range of 150km and, combined with the engine, it is claimed to have a total range of 1,100km. When connected to a DC fast charger, the battery can be recharged from 30% to 80% in as little as 25 minutes.

On the other hand, the Jaecoo J5 is reported to arrive in Malaysia as a petrol variant, despite its EV counterpart making an appearance at the recent Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS 2025). It will feature a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine; however, the output has yet to be revealed by the automaker.
