With the new electricity tariff structure for Peninsular Malaysia, domestic users can choose to either maintain the billing status quo, or switch over to the Time-of-Use (ToU) billing scheme. In case you missed it, this is where your electricity usage costs slightly higher rate during peak hours of 2PM to 10PM of working weekdays, but much lower outside of this window. And you can now apply for the switch via the myTNB web portal.
To do this, you’ll have to first log into the portal using your account. Then hit the Switch To Tou button, followed by Start Application. Your contact details should be automatically filled based on your account information. Verify that they are correct before hitting Save and Proceed.

You’ll then be prompted to settle any outstanding payments, and then to select the Eligible Tariff To Apply, which is the TOU tariff in this case. Once that’s done, hit Save and Proceed. part of the process also requires the upload of an identification document, which will be your MyKad for most people.
Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) says that if you already have an activated smart meter, the process of switching to the ToU billing scheme will take up to five working days. If not, then it may take up to two months on account of setting up said smart meter.
If you choose not to do this via the myTNB portal, alternatives include visiting your nearest Kedai Tenaga or sending an email to tnbtou@tnb.com.my. The option to do so via the myTNB mobile app is still noted as coming soon at the time of writing.
