The Ministry of Finance (MOF) reveals that detailed implementation plans for the targeted RON95 petrol subsidy will be announced by the end of September 2025. This timeline aligns with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s statement last month.
In a written parliamentary reply, the MOF said that development and testing of the subsidy targeting mechanism are ongoing, with the aim of ensuring a smooth and effective rollout. Efforts include refining and synchronising data from key government agencies such as the National Registration Department, Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), it added.

The ministry reiterated that the government is pursuing a more comprehensive approach to ensure the fuel subsidy reaches only the intended groups. The response was issued following a question from Hulu Langat MP Mohd Sany Hamzan, who requested an update on the front-end and back-end implementation phases previously outlined by the Ministry of Economy.
According to the MOF, eligible Malaysians will be able to purchase RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre by verifying their identity through MyKad under the new mechanism. Meanwhile, non-citizens and those deemed ineligible will be charged the full unsubsidised market rate.

Separately, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan revealed yesterday that the Central Database Hub (PADU) will serve as the primary reference for verifying eligibility under the scheme. The use of this centralised data system is expected to enhance the accuracy and fairness of subsidy distribution.
