Microsoft hit a milestone by being valued at US$4 trillion (~RM17.11 trillion). It’s a first for the company in its 50-year history, but more importantly, it is now the second company in the tech ecosphere to hit said milestone, right after NVIDIA took first place for the title last month.
A lot of Microsoft’s good fortune into becoming a US$4 trillion company stems from its better-than-expected earnings, mostly from its Azure cloud computing business. The segment had generated more than US$75 billion (~RM320 billion) during its 2025 fiscal year, which sent its stock price flying on the NASDAQ after hours.
While its revenue from Azure is certainly far more than Google’s own cloud computing business, neither can still hold a candle to Amazon’s own Web Services. That said, it’s difficult to run away from the service; every PC, AI project, its Office Software, Windows, and even Xbox, are in some way powered by it.
On the subject of AI, Microsoft had also announced that it is now planning on spending US$30 billion (~RM128 billion) on its AI infrastructure investments for the next quarters. Assuming that the company that owns Windows keeps the momentum, that spending could total to US$120 billion (~RM513 billion) on more infrastructure in the future.
