Following several leaked images from content creators, EA and Battlefield Studios have finally come out of the woodwork to officially announce its upcoming title, Battlefield 6. The reveal showcased several brand new features, such as a redefined combat mechanic, new and returning game modes, and multiplayer and single-player details, all of which we’ll get to enjoy on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC when it launches on 10 October.
The game features several major additions and changes to the destructible shooter that we all know and love. The biggest among them is the new Kinesthetic Combat System that injects a lot more realism into the game. Boasting “unprecedented levels of mobility”, the system sees characters drag and revive downed players, sprint while crouched, mount weapons to walls for stability, and even do some parkour rolls, to name a few.
Unlike its predecessor, Battlefield 6 will now have the classes system available on day one. Based on the official gameplay reveal, combat is far more intense, and you need the right tools for the right job. There is the typical shoot-first-ask-questions-later Assault class, who are equipped with two primary weapons for maximum destruction; the Engineer, who are more than capable of destroying vehicles as well as repairing them; Recon for those looking to sneak through the rubble and locate then snipe off key players; and Support, who is meant to keep you and the rest of your mates alive for as long as possible.
You can build new paths or destroy them altogether in the much-beloved multiplayer game mode. Classic multiplayer game modes, such as Conquest, Breakthrough, and Rush, are now making a comeback to Battlefield 6 — modes that have defined the franchise as a whole. If that is not up to your speed, however, other modes such as Team Deathmatch, Squad Deathmatch, Domination and King of the Hill are. This entry also introduces a new mode called Escalation that “sees two teams fight to capture strategic control points”.

If you are itching to play the game yourself, good news. Battlefield 6 will have two open beta weekends, from 9 to 10 August and 14 to 17 August. Streamers and content creators will have the exclusive privilege to play the game as soon as today in EA’s streamer showcase. If you manage to catch this streamer showcase on Twitch, you stand a chance to gain early access that will allow you to play the game from 7 to 8 August.
