Commuters on the Kelana Jaya LRT Line are advised to take note of scheduled service disruptions on weekends and public holidays starting 9 August until 22 November 2025. This will be part of ongoing signalling system upgrades aimed at extending the line’s lifespan by two decades.
According to Rapid KL operator Prasarana, the RM150 million upgrade is now over 80% complete as of 30 June and involves replacing the outdated automatic train control (ATC) system with the latest SelTrac Generation 8 technology. This new system promises real-time data analytics, improved cybersecurity, and more stable train communications.

The upcoming work is part of three upgrade phases, where the first of which have been completed recently. Prasarana said that Phase 1, completed on 19 July, was carried out during overnight maintenance hours near depot areas and did not affect daily operations. Phase 2 will take place between 9 August and 14 September, covering 10 stations between KLCC and Gombak. Phase 3 is scheduled from 11 October to 22 November, affecting 17 stations from Lembah Subang to Ampang Park.
LRT chief operating officer Nor Azmi Mohd Yusof stressed that weekday operations will remain unchanged, with full weekday services running as usual. However, on the affected weekends and holidays, selected stations will open later at 9am instead of the usual 6am. Stations not involved in the testing phases will continue operations as normal.
Prasarana group COO (strategy and development), Dr Prodyut Dutt, estimates that around 7,000 passengers may be affected daily during Phase 2, and up to 20,000 in Phase 3. He said the operator will also deploy free shuttle buses and vans to serve affected stations throughout the period to reduce inconvenience. Station staff, auxiliary police, and Prasarana Troopers will also be stationed to assist and guide passengers during these closures.
