Remember Vine, the original platform for short videos? The service was shut down by long-time owner Twitter back in 2016, long before current leadership and name change. That being said, current owner Elon Musk has said that Vine will be coming back, “but in AI form”.
The announcement was made on X, via his own official account, but did not include any details as to what that even means. All we have to work with is a response by xAI chatbot Grok after a commenter asked it the same question. Nothing definitive, but the inclusion of AI suggests either smart editing tools and personalised recommendations at best. At worst, it’s just AI-generated clips.

As mentioned, Vine was the original short video platform, with heavy emphasis on the word short. After all, clips were only six seconds long, though this may have contributed to its downfall. After all, platforms that now take uploads of short videos allow for much longer “shorts“.
No word on when Vine will be returning, but it won’t have been the weirdest thing Elon Musk has done. Or the companies he owns for that matter. After all, xAI has posted jobs for engineers to make “waifu” avatars for its Grok chatbot.
