Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo has said that Malaysia is Southeast Asia’s most complete game development ecosystem. He describes the country as “global-ready, thanks to the complementary pillars of academia, international development and service providers, technology and publishing and distribution”.
And the minister is looking to “deepen this synergy”, following what is described as the “PlayStation Studios x Government of Malaysia Strategic Alignment Discussion”. In a Facebook post, the minister says that the meeting “highlighted the potential to expand PlayStation Studios Malaysia‘s capacity as a regional AAA hub – while empowering local vendors and talent through government-backed initiatives”.

Subjects being discussed range “from studio workforce growth, vendor enablement to aligning with national policies such as the DICE roadmap, AI, and Malaysia Digital”. Gobind expresses confidence that “we will see meaningful progress as a result of this meeting” at the end of the post. Though for now it’s not exactly clear what form in will take.
For context, the DICE roadmap refers to MDEC’s Digital Content Ecosystem roadmap, which was first established in 2019. It is an initiative to make Malaysia a leading global digital creative hub by the year 2030. This involves not just games, but also animation and creative tech in general.
