It looks like EA’s next Battlefield title will be ditching the “xx42” moniker and returning to single-digit names, which in this case, will be Battlefield 6. This was more or less confirmed through multiple leaks, posted by content creators over the past several weeks.
In a since-deleted post by content creator Doom49, they posted the promotional package they received from EA: a hard-shell case with the words “Battlefield 6” clearly emblazoned across it. Not only that, if you pay close attention to the straps, you can also see the hints of the game modes that will be making a comeback.

Those game modes include Conquest, Rush, and Breakthrough. Three primary maps have defined the Battlefield franchise.
Formerly known as Battlefield Labs, Battlefield 6 is scheduled to hit consoles and PCs sometime during EA’s current fiscal year, which started in April this year and will end on 31 March 2026. The sending out of packages to content creators also means that the developer cum publisher is already planning on revealing the next instalment sometime within the next two weeks. In the case of Doom49, they either received the packaged earlier than expected or they just outright didn’t honour whatever embargo EA had set.
Whatever the case, EA is clearly putting in a lot more time and money into the development of Battlefield 6, with the hopes that it will be the comeback title for the studio, especially after the lacklustre reception it received with Battlefield 2042.
