The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has identified two more firms suspected of bribing the project manager of a construction company to acquire data centre construction projects. A source in the MACC stated that authorities have also identified several company directors. These individuals will be called to assist in the ongoing investigation.
The source went on to explain that the key suspect, the project manager, had admitted to asking for around 3% of the project value from any organisation that wanted to obtain a project from the construction firm. The suspect reportedly leaked the tender price and helped ensure the company paying the bribe would be given priority to win the tender.

The bribe would then be paid in stages based on the progress of the project payment. According to the source, the company has yet to pay another several million ringgit to the suspect as per the agreement between the parties involved.
Previously, the project manager along with three other individuals were arrested as part of an investigation into a RM180 million data centre project in Johor. During the raid, the suspect tried to burn almost RM1 million in a panicked attempt to destroy the evidence. MACC also found approximately RM7.5 million in cash stored in pillow boxes, as well as Rolex, Omega, and Cartier luxury watches in addition to jewellery items in the suspect’s residence in Petaling Jaya.
