Nintendo has announced that it has a Switch Online: Playtest Program coming up at the end of the month. Details as to what the playtest is for is scarce, but the announcement points to a possibility of the company working on a game akin to an MMO.
What the company has put out is that the playtest session runs from 28 July through to 10 August. Signups for the test open on 21 July, on a first-come, first-served basis, but only for Nintendo Accounts registered in Japan, the US, the UK, France Germany, Italy, Spain, Canada, Brazil and Mexico. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, with a Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership starting from at least 17 July.
Probably most notable here though is that Nintendo says that “this is a test of the same service for which we performed a test in October of 2024”. While the company has not officially shared what the previous playtest was about, leaks pointed towards a potential MMO. If these leaks are accurate, it would explain the need for multiple playtests.
Nintendo says that it is expecting to accept up to 40,000 participants worldwide. Which isn’t that big a number in the context of worldwide, even if the actual number of eligible countries are extremely limited. All that being saidmany of us would have probably registered an account in one of the aforementioned countries. After all, we don’t have an official region here in Malaysia yet. With that in mind, you could give the playtest a try yourself if you feel so inclined.
