Sony officially unveiled its flagship Xperia 1 VII back in May. But earlier this month the company halted sales of the phone in various markets that got it early. More recently, it looks like the company has managed to identify the source of the issue.
In a support article, Sony says that it has identified the issues with the Xperia 1 VII that caused it to unexpectedly turn off or restart, or not even turn on. These are caused by “a failure of the circuit board” which in turn was caused by a problem with the manufacturing process. The company claims that it has immediately changed said manufacturing process “to ensure this does not happen again”.

The company insists that this only affects “a small number” of its flagship phones. But you are eligible for a replacement Sony Xperia 1 VII if you are one of the unlucky few. Naturally this doesn’t apply to us in Malaysia as the company has not officially released the phone here yet.
But even in places where this applies – such as the UK, where the support article is from – this doesn’t start immediately. Instead, Sony says that the replacement program starts on 21 July, with owners of the Xperia 1 VII with specific IMEI numbers being eligible to have their phones replaced.
