National automaker Proton has officially opened bookings for the facelifted Proton X50, following a recent preview of the refreshed SUV. The updated model features a redesigned exterior and interior, along with significant mechanical enhancements.
Visually, the new X50 sports a revised front grille and bumper, giving it a bolder and more modern appearance. Inside, the SUV gains an updated infotainment system, now featuring voice recognition in Bahasa Melayu for the first time—enhancing convenience for local drivers.

Under the hood, the biggest upgrade is the switch from a 3-cylinder to a 4-cylinder engine. According to sources such as Paultan.org, the new 1.5L i-GT TD engine is developed by Aurobay, a Geely-Volvo joint venture based in Sweden, now part of the Horse Powertrain (a Geely-Renault collaboration).
This new powertrain delivers 178 horsepower and 290Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed DCT gearbox. The facelift X50 is also 0.3 seconds quicker in the 0–100 km/h sprint compared to its predecessor. Buyers will be able to choose from three variants: Executive, Premium, and Flagship.

Additionally, the company also announced Early Booking Offers for the first 10,000 customers. This offer includes a RM1000 cash rebate, a special edition Touch ‘n Go card and another exclusive ‘Gempak’ deal which will be revealed during the launch of the car.
This early bird promotion is also valid only from 5 July until the launch date. Bookings can be made at all Proton 3S and 4S outlets across Peninsular Malaysia, or via Proton’s official website. Note that the new X50 is not yet available for viewing or booking in East Malaysia. Pricing details have not been announced yet, but further updates are expected soon.
