While the Xperia 1 VII has been pulled from store shelves in Japan, Sony has not issued a recall. Instead, the company has rolled out a software update that it claims addresses the reported problems. Investigations into the root cause are still ongoing.
For owners of affected units that won’t turn on, Sony recommends holding both the power button and volume up button for around 20 seconds to force a recovery, followed by installing the latest software update. If this doesn’t work, users are advised to contact Sony support.
The Xperia 1 VII is scheduled for Malaysian release later this month. It remains unclear whether the shipped out units are affected, but with some time left before launch, Sony may be able to resolve the issue in advance. Even so, prospective buyers should be aware of the situation in case similar problems arise outside Japan.
