Console exclusivity is dead. Or at least PlayStation is making it so for one very popular game that it publishes. This is because the pretty popular Helldivers 2 has gotten a release date for the Xbox Series X and Series S. And it’s happening later next month, or more specifically, 26 August.
Mikael Eriksson, the game director for Helldivers 2, says that “the more players we have the more stories we can tell”. Which is usually the draw of a game like Helldivers 2, probably when mildly inebriated. He says that “we know gamers have been asking for this for some time”, but did not share which party was playing the hurdle.

This is another step in adding more players to the game. Last year, the game infamously mandated – due to publisher pressure – that even PC gamers needed a PSN account to play Helldivers 2. The backlash that everyone save for PlayStation could see coming caused the unpopular move to be backtracked, but a different lock went into effect in its place; markets without official PSN presence were locked out of playing the game.
In recent months, the region lock has since been released, and soon, with Xbox players also able to join in the fun, the game should see an uptick in players. Those who are still logging into the game every so often can probably expect a Major Order closer to the end of next month.
