Boost has announced an expansion to its cross-border payment offerings through a new integration with UnionPay International (UPI), allowing direct support for QR code payments in China using Weixin Pay (aka WeChat Pay globally). This is made possible using the Axiata-owned fintech platform’s “Scan and Pay” feature via its official mobile app.
With this expansion, users can now pay at local merchants across China simply by scanning QR codes, including static codes, without the need for additional apps or registration. The integration also enables Boost users to make payments at UnionPay-supported merchants in a range of countries, including Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Cambodia, South Korea and Australia.

To activate UnionPay support, launch the Boost mobile app, and then enable UPI via the Payment Services page. Keep in mind that you are required to complete the eKYC verification as well as upgrade to the premium 10k account first.
The cross-border feature is linked with Boost’s existing embedded financial services, such as PayFlex and automatic top-ups from Boost Bank savings accounts. This means users retain direct access and control over their funds while abroad, offering greater flexibility and peace of mind during international transactions. The app also provides transparency through real-time exchange rates, clear fee breakdowns, and an updated transaction history.

Boost’s international capabilities previously supported inbound QR payments from overseas visitors to Malaysia. With the introduction of outbound payment support, it now offers a more complete cross-border payment experience.
