National carmaker Proton released a teaser yesterday on its official Facebook page, hinting that something new is on the horizon. Based on what’s shared, it’s fairly evident that the teaser is related to its eMAS 7 EV. However, Proton did not provide specific details about what’s coming, leading to widespread speculation in the comments section.
Some believe it could be the announcement of a locally assembled version of the eMAS 7. However, this seems unlikely, as the EV plant in Tanjong Malim is only expected to complete its first phase of construction by the end of this year.
Others speculate that the teaser may relate to the long-awaited integration of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (AACP). This is a plausible guess, as an over-the-air (OTA) update for AACP is expected in July—and currently, only the facelifted X70 supports it.
According to paultan.org, another possibility is the launch of a special edition, though given the eMAS 7’s relatively recent debut, this seems improbable. A more likely scenario, just as credible as the AACP update, could be a specification revision, perhaps in response to the BYD Atto 3 Ultra’s recent spec bump and price drop.
Either way, with Proton stating that the announcement will be made in the next three days (by 2 July 2025), we won’t have to wait long to find out. To recap, the eMAS 7 was launched in December last year, starting from RM109,800, and is available in two variants—Prime and Premium.
The Prime variant is equipped with a 49.52 kWh LFP battery, while the Premium comes with a larger 60.22 kWh battery, offering an estimated range of up to 410 km (WLTP). Both variants are powered by a 160 kW front-mounted electric motor, delivering smooth performance on Geely’s GEA platform, which is shared with the Galaxy E5.
