Google is preparing to launch its Pixel 10 series, which is rumoured to officially debut on 20 August. While this new generation of smartphones appear to be quite similar to the previous one, it seems that Google is adding a feature that could make this lineup stand out: Qi2 support with magnets.
According to Android Authority, marketing materials meant for retailers revealed that the company is working on at least three magnetic Qi2 accessories for the Pixel 10 series. The line of accessories is reportedly called “Pixelsnap”, and includes the Pixelsnap Charger, Pixelsnap Charger with Stand, and Pixelsnap Ring Stand.

Based on the names, the products will probably be a standard charger, the charger with a stand to keep the phone upright, and just the stand on its own. An unnamed trade database apparently lists the charger as a wireless charger with Qi2.2 and Magnetic Power Profile. It will come in two colours with the code names Rock Candy and Mist, which are supposedly black and white respectively.
Android Authority also reported that the Pixel 10 phones will come with a ConvenientPower CPS4041 controller chip that can support up to 60W charging. That said, Google could still set its own power limits if it so chooses.

Regardless of whether the Pixel 10 lineup will get faster wireless charging, Pixelsnap could still be a highlight. Qi2, which was based on Apple’s MagSafe technology, has been around for a while, but Android phones have largely avoided built-in magnets in their designs. Google committing to magnetic hardware for the Pixel 10 could be a welcome change.
