Update – 4:50PM: As it turns out, the Nintendo Switch 2 is currently going through the SIRIM application process. We’ve updated the article below to reflect this.
Original article – 4:20PM:
Previously, Nintendo officially announced that the Switch 2 will be available between July and September in four countries within Southeast Asia. Or more specifically, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines. Today, the company’s official Facebook page for the region has announced that the next generation handheld console hybrid will be available on 26 June in the region, with Malaysia being the only exception.
Or more specifically, the other three countries were mentioned in the announcement, with only Malaysia not being mentioned. The post even comes with two images for two different formats of writing dates. But back to the main point, the post itself does not come with an explanation as to why we’ve been excluded. The link in the posts simply points back to the initial July – September announcement, so that’s of no help.
We also took a look into the SIRIM database, and found that the Switch 2 has not been listed. Instead, all three variants of the first generation show up here, including two entries for the Lite and OLED.
For what it’s worth, we’ve reached out to an industry contact regarding Malaysia’s exemption from the 26 June launch date. As of the publishing of this article we have not yet gotten a response, but we’ll let you know if we learn anything new.
Update: People familiar with the matter have shared that the Nintendo Switch 2 is currently undergoing the SIRIM application process. That being said, there’s no word on when this will be completed.
