For the longest time, only the Steam Deck is officially “Powered by SteamOS”. That’s the designation for gaming handheld PCs that Valve officially supports. Another one has been added to the list, and it’s the Lenovo Legion GO S, confirming the leak from half a year ago, and the official announcement around CES 2025.
This comes as part of the much larger SteamOS 3.7.8 update that has a bunch of other additions and fixes. The patch notes also mention better support for other AMD Powered handhelds, including the ASUS ROG Ally and the original Legion Go being explicitly mentioned.
Despite there being only one other third-party gaming handheld that has gotten official support, Valve has released instructions for installing its own OS on other gaming handhelds. Well, sort off. This comes as an addition to its support page for SteamOS Recovery and Installation. Though only two are specifically named – the original Legion Go and the ROG Ally, matching the mention in the OS update patch notes.
In the support page, Valve explicitly mentions also that the only devices that are officially “Powered by SteamOS” are the Steam Deck and Lenovo Legion Go S. The other two above that got specific mentions are probably next in line, but there are no confirmations on that front yet, nor when more devices will be officially supported. But that hasn’t stopped owners from trying it on their own.
