Apple is expected to release its iPhone 17 series later this year, which includes the reportedly ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air. As with a lot of highly anticipated phones, rumours and leaks keep surfacing, with the most recent one concerning the device’s battery capacity and weight.
According to a post on Naver, the iPhone 17 Air will feature a 2,800mAh battery, which is not a lot for a modern smartphone. To make matters worse, the battery capacity is also considerably less than the recently released Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, which packs a 3,900mAh unit in a 5.8mm body. For what it’s worth though, the upcoming iPhone 17 Air will allegedly only measure 5.5mm thick, excluding the camera bump.

The leak also mentions that the device weighs only 145g, which is much lighter than the S25 Edge’s 163g, even though the iPhone sports a bigger display. Naturally, some trade-offs are to be expected for this to be achieved, although one might question whether the compromises are worth it.
The meagre battery capacity might be disappointing to hear for some, but Apple reportedly has a solution for this. Apparently, there is a chance that the company will use high-density battery technology to increase the capacity by at least 15%. Another possibility is the development of an AI-powered battery saving feature to optimise battery life. And then there’s the idea of bringing back the Smart Battery Case, although this is probably the less thrilling option for obvious reasons.
