A flying car is a dream for many people, and it seems like Slovakian-based Klein Vision, is making that dream come true with the world’s first certified flying car: the AirCar. The four-wheel vehicle with wings is expected to go on sale early next year, with a starting price of US$800,000 (~RM3,419,200).

Last week, the final production prototype of the AirCar, was unveiled at the 2025 Living Legends of Aviation Gala Dinner in Los Angeles. The previous 4th-gen prototype has clocked 170 successful flight hours and over 500 take-offs and landings.

Despite how it looks, the AirCar is actually road legal. So much so that Klein Vision co-founder Anton Zajac says that a regular driving licence is sufficient to operate the car on the road. Of course, if you want to fly the car, you will need to possess a private pilot’s licence.

The process of flying the AirCar starts with aligning it with the runway and pressing a button on the steering wheel, which then transforms into a yoke that controls the ailerons, initiating flight mode.

Meanwhile on the outside, the wings lift, unfold, and lock into place, creating a 8.2-metre wingspan. Simultaneously, the tail extends backward. During the transition, the AirCar’s engine disconnects from the wheels and instead powers the rear-mounted pusher propeller, preparing the vehicle for take-off. This entire process takes about 80 seconds.

The AirCar features a 3.2-litre, 120-degree V6 engine that comes in three options. The naturally aspirated base model will offer 280 horsepower, while the top-of-the-line version will have twin-turbo and an output of 340hp. “Cruising speed in the air is 135 knots (249 km/h). When you’re on the road, it’s a sports car and you can easily go 200 km/h,” says Zajac.

Moreover, with the installation of oxygen tanks, the AirCar has a ceiling of 18,000 feet, though it can still fly up to 10,000 feet without the oxygen tanks. In the air, it has a range of 1,000 km and 800km on the road.

The AirCar is currently scheduled to take flight in September in the process of receiving full Part 23/CS-23 certification from EASA and/or the US FAA. Once received, it will pave the way for mass production of the flying car.
