Sony has recently introduced Apple Pay support to its PlayStation 5 console. First spotted by 9to5Mac, this addition allows users to buy games, downloadable content (DLC), and other items with the payment option via the PlayStation Store.
During the checkout process on the PS5, choosing the Apple Pay option will generate a unique code on the console screen, which must be scanned using an iPhone or iPad. After scanning the code, a native Apple Pay checkout interface will appear on the mobile device, allowing users to select a card and complete the purchase using Face ID or Touch ID.
This functionality builds on Apple’s recent expansion of its payment system’s compatibility. At present, support for the payment option is only available on the PS5, with no official word on whether the feature will be extended to PS4 systems.
Malaysian users are also reportedly eligible for this feature, provided their PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts are registered in the local region. However, it appears that the update is rolling out in phases, as some users have yet to see the Apple Pay option appear on their PS5 consoles.
