The Microsoft Surface devices, be it the 2-in-1 tablet or the laptops, come in all sorts of sizes, though the former tend to the the more compact while the latter more conventional in size. In case you wanted even more diminutive options for both, the company has answered your prayers, with the announcement of the 12-inch Surface Pro and 13-inch Surface Laptop.
To be fair, the 12-inch Microsoft Surface Pro is not the smallest example in the product line – that goes to the Surface Go. That being said, the “Surface Pro, 12-inch” as it is officially called, is an Arm-powered device, running a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus chipset. It also has 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM, and a choice of 256GB or 512GB of storage space. The battery capacity was not mentioned specifically, but the company claims it can run up to 12 hours of “active web usage” or up to 16 hours of “local video playback”.

On the outside, it has, as the name suggests, a 12-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 2,196 x 1,464, and a refresh rate of 90Hz. The new, smaller size does mean needing a new Type Cover keyboard to be made for it as well. For ports, all you get are two USB-C 3.2, but they do everything from charging and data transfer to external displays. And on that note, charging is rated at 45W.
Moving on to the Microsoft Surface Laptop, 13-inch, this too runs on the Snapdragon X Plus platform plus 16GB of LPDDR5x memory. Storage options are 256GB or 512GB as well, which the company says are removable. It also gets a 1,920 x 1,280 touch display with a 60Hz refresh rate.

Being a more conventional laptop, it boasts slightly better battery life, at up to 16 hours of active web usage and up to 23 hours of local video playback. In addition to the two familiar USB-C 3.2 ports, it also gets the additional USB-A 3.1 port and 3.5mm audio jack, with charging rate also bumped up to 60W.
While neither of these are listed locally yet, the Microsoft Surface Pro, 12-inch has a starting price of US$799.99 (~RM3,389). The Surface Laptop, 13-inch, on the other hand, starts from US$899.99 (~RM3,813). We’ll let you know when we hear more about their local pricing and availability.
