Chinese automaker SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile (SGMW) is set to launch in Malaysia in the very near future. The company will instead debut as “TQ Wuling” locally and will also introduce a budget, locally-assembled (CKD) EV model to the market within the fourth quarter of 2025.
The vehicle in question is the Wuling Bingo, which is assembled (CKD) at Tan Chong Motor’s Segambut facility. In fact, a strategic partnership between the company and SAIC-GM-Wuling was freshly inked earlier today, witnessed by Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
While the EV may be new in Malaysia, it had already launched in Indonesia back in 2023. In that market, the Wuling Bingo is offered in two variants: Long Range and Premium Range.
As for design, in a way, it does bear some semblance to the Ora Good Cat. Like the aforementioned EV, the Wuling Bingo is a compact hatchback, sporting a two-tone finish as well as X-shaped headlamps.
Inside, the EV offers a soft synthetic leather interior trims and ceramic glaze texture. There’s also a unique floating island central infotainment system with 10.25-inch dual screens.
The Long Range model features a 31.9-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery that gives a CLTC range of 333km. Meanwhile, the Premium Range has a 37.9-kWh battery that increases the CLTC range by 77km, giving a total of 410km.
In terms of charging, the Wuling Bingo takes 9.5 hours to fully charge and can be charged via AC at 3.3 kW. With DC rapid charging, it is claimed to reach 80% of charge in about 35 minutes, though the automaker did not specify the permissible power input.
With the Bingo being locally assembled, this could also mean that it might be priced below RM100,000, as per the government-mandated price for CKD EVs. We’ll only find out once TQ Wuling launches the vehicle locally sometime in Q4 of this year.
