Another day brings in yet another leak surrounding the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 and Fold7 phones. We’ve previously heard rumours about their purported specs, slimness, and cameras. Now, a new report, courtesy of The Chosun Daily, alleges that the Z Flip7 will feature Samsung’s in-house Exynos 2500 chipset. This decision was apparently made with cost considerations in mind.
According to 9to5Google, equipping the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 with an Exynos 2500 chip was originally the plan, before being scrapped. Now, it seems like the idea is back on the table, with an industry official reportedly confirming that the decision was driven mostly by pricing, and due to an improved yield rate of the chip. “It appears the company has determined that yield has stabilized to a workable level”. The chip previously had an apparent industry-estimated yield rate of 20% to 40%.

Cost may be another factor contributing to Samsung deciding to fit the Galaxy Z Flip7 with its own Exynos chipset rather than one by Qualcomm. The report notes that the chipmaker has raised the prices of its chips by over 20% annually. With that, the cost of using a Snapdragon chip in the clamshell may simply be too high. The Galaxy Z Fold7 on the other hand, which tends to be priced higher anyway, will still use a Qualcomm Snapdragon, but the exact model was not specified.
Besides its rumoured chipset, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 has previously been alleged to have a 4-inch cover display, a 4,300mAh battery, and a 50MP + 12MP camera setup. The Z Fold7 has been suspected to be 8.2mm when folded, and have a triple-camera setup. This consists of a 200MP main camera, 10MP sensor with 3x telephoto lens, and a 12MP ultra-wide angle camera.

Both Samsung phones are scheduled to debut during the company’s Galaxy Unpacked event in July. According to the report, mass production of the Z Flip7 is set to begin in May, and will be launched alongside the Z Fold7.
