Negeri Sembilan is set to host two major data centre projects, revealed its Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amidudin Harun during the State Legislative Assembly earlier today. He noted that one facility would be a green data centre in Nilai, developed by US investors, while the second would be an artificial intelligence (AI) technology data centre located in Springhill, Port Dickson, under the stewardship of Gamuda Berhad (Bhd).

Aminuddin explained that land matters had been finalised and that earthworks were already underway for both projects. He said Negeri Sembilan was selected for its strategic location near the Klang Valley, the country’s principal industrial and business hub. He also cited the state’s strong highway network, reliable electricity supply, and adequate water capacity as key factors that made it suitable for hosting such facilities.

The projects are expected to bring a range of benefits to the local community, creating high-quality employment opportunities, particularly in information technology, and would contribute to increased investment and tax revenue for the state. However, Amiuddin noted that the government would remain cautious when approving future data centre projects, especially considering the high water demand typically associated with such operations.

In response to a supplementary question by Choo Ken Hwa (PH-Lukut) regarding long-term water supply plans, Aminuddin said that a new water treatment plant, capable of processing 67 million litres per day, would be built by Gamuda Berhad and later managed by Syarikat Air Negeri Sembilan upon completion. The plant is expected to secure water needs for Springhill and surrounding areas, ensuring that the data centre operations do not negatively affect local water resources.
