Windows 11 Start Menu Could Be Getting An Overhaul

It’s bigger and better.

It looks like Microsoft is addressing some of the issues with Windows 11. The latest preview build for Windows 11 features a major overhaul for the Start menu that includes improvements on the layout as well as customization options.

If we’re being honest, Windows 11 has not been a particularly well-received OS since its launch, and the Start menu has been a source of criticism due to the lack of customisation. In its current state, the apps list is placed in a separate view, where the user has to manually click to see all of the installed apps. Additionally, the recommended section cannot be turned off.

Hidden in today's Dev/Beta CUs: a major update to the Windows 11 Start menu! It has a new, larger layout with everything on one scrollable page, with the "All" list below recommendations – which can FINALLY be turned off! Pinned list is now limited to 2 rows, but can be expanded. pic.twitter.com/JkP3V2I5g6

An obvious change found in the preview build as highlighted by X user @phantomofearth is the bigger, wider layout, which makes the menu feel less cluttered and allows for more apps to be added to the pinned list. All the apps are also featured on a single scrollable page. The pinned list is also limited to two rows but can be expanded. And of course, the recommended section can now be removed.

At the time of writing, the update has not been officially announced, so it isn’t entirely certain when the update will arrive. But it’s nice to see that Microsoft is looking to improve the user experience for Windows 11, if only to encourage more users to switch to Windows 11.
