Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) and Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, are establishing a joint innovation lab in Malaysia to enhance real-time communication (RTC) services. Announced at the Malaysia Pavilion during Mobile World Congress 2025, the initiative will leverage 5G connectivity to improve voice and video quality on Meta’s platforms.
DNB stated that both parties are finalising the collaboration terms, focusing on optimising network performance and developing advanced technologies for better RTC experiences. The lab aims to enhance call clarity, reduce latency, and increase bitrate, ensuring a smoother and more reliable communication experience for DNB’s 5G network subscribers.
Meanwhile, Meta’s Vice President of Network Engineering Vinod S highlighted the potential of this joint initiative in improving user experience. “We are dedicated to enhancing real-time communication services on our platforms and look forward to working with the connectivity ecosystem in Malaysia to achieve this goal,” he said.
The collaboration with Meta follows DNB’s recent agreement with Ericsson, which focuses on advancing enterprise digitalisation, as well as enhancing connectivity and innovation. This partnership aims to expand the global application programming interface (API) network ecosystem, enabling developers to integrate functionalities from other applications to simplify and accelerate development processes.
