For the less serious users of ChatGPT, using it for free is plenty good enough, especially since better models are also being rolled out. But OpenAI has plans for extremely specialised AI agents for those who really want the extra virtual hand. But there’s a major catch, as these can cost up to US$20,000 (~RM88,300) a month.

The Information reports that OpenAI has a few such AI agents that it intends to launch, for several different applications. The aforementioned US$20,000 a month AI agent, the most expensive one according to the report, will be focused on helping with “PhD-level research”.

Other options include an software developer AI agent, which is said to cost US$10,000 (~RM44,150) a month, as well as one “high-income knowledge worker” agent costing US$2,000 (~RM8,830) a month. That last one, despite being the least expensive example, also seems the most excessive, considering the vagueness of that description.

For now, it remains unclear when these AI agents will be launching, as well as their availability. Considering the kind of prices OpenAI is charging though, it wouldn’t be surprising if some of them are for large enterprises only, with business deals ultimately lowering the cost somewhat. On the other hand, it remains to be seen if there is any interest among the general public for the other more accessible agents.
