A short day after the relatively quiet announcements of the iPad 11 and iPad Air 7, Apple officially launches the M4 MacBook Air, in both its 13- and 15-inch glory. It’s also got a new sky blue colour option, perhaps to match the Ultramarine blue of the iPhone 16. But more importantly, it has a lower starting price than its predecessor.
All that being said though, the M4 MacBook Air is an incremental upgrade to what came before, and as you can tell, the M4 chip is the specific upgrade in question. For whatever reason, Apple is still using its very first M1 as a comparison point, and says that the M4 is twice as fast, as opposed to the 60% increase of the M3.

As mentioned before, the upgrades chip also brings with it the related benefits such as better multi-display support. And with generative AI being the hottest tech trend right now, Apple Intelligence also comes as part of the package. There’s also the 12MP FaceTime camera which now supports Center Stage.
Finally we get to the exciting bit of the announcement. To reiterate, the M4 MacBook Air has a starting price of RM4,499 for the 13-inch model. This goes down further to RM4,069 for education. The 15-inch model starts from RM5,499, with RM5,069 being the starting education price. Putting a damper on the announcement though is a lack of release date for the local market, beyond the “soon” that the bitten fruit brand also gave us for the iPads.
