Deutsche Telekom has confirmed that its AI Phone is set to be launched later this year. Describing it as “interactive, intelligent, and intuitive”, the company has shared that the phone will be powered by Perplexity AI during this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC).
Initially teased at MWC 2024, the AI Phone is now apparently set to be launched in key European markets in 2026. Replacing the traditional app-based user interface with Perplexity Assistant, the phone will house a custom Magenta AI operating system.
The phone makes use of a multimodal-input, meaning you can voice out a request, as well as type it out, and use your camera to carry out a search-somewhat similar to Apple’s Visual Intelligence feature. This also means its Perplexity Assistant can carry out tasks such as sending out emails and online shopping without the need to switch apps.
On smartphones available via Deutsche Telekom, the assistant is accessible on the lock screen, or by double-tapping the phone’s power button. For users with older smartphone models, the features can be accessed with Magenta AI through the MeinMagenta app, available on Google Play Store. Deutsche Telekom also confirmed that the device will come equipped with Google Cloud AI, Elevenlabs and Picsart starting this summer. As of now, there have been no confirmations if the device will be made available in Malaysia.
