NVIDIA’s Fabled ARM CPU Appears On Geekbench With Less Than Stellar Performance

It's still in early stages, obviously, so manage expectations.

+Back in 2023, we reported on a story that NVIDIA was developing its own ARM-based chips for PCs, and that it planned on debuting said chips sometime this year. It looks like the GPU brand is keeping to its promise, with said chip’s performance, or at least a variant of it, briefly appearing on Geekbench.

We say briefly because at the time of writing, we’re greeted with a “error 404” message, which strongly suggests that NVIDIA clearly didn’t intend for its existence to be public knowledge, never mind its alleged performance.

At current, its performance isn’t anything to shout about; dubbed the N1X, the chip only has a single-core score of 1169 and a multi-core score of 2417. Specs-wise, it’s being listed as a 4-core processor with a base frequency of 3.2GHz. By the way, it’s best to take these specs with a larger-than-average grain of salt, mainly because we don’t think this is the final design or finished product.

As another quick recap, NVIDIA is allegedly developing the N1X with the help of Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek. This is most likely due to the GPU brand’s desire to capture a larger portion of the gaming handheld market. At current, its rival, AMD, is the dominant force, with consoles such as the Steam Deck, ASUS ROG Ally X, and the second generation Lenovo Legion Go consoles being powered by their custom chips.

There’s still no definitive timeline as to when NVIDIA plans on announcing its new ARM CPU but if it is indeed planning on launching it, we can see two timelines that it could do it: Computex 2025 in May or maybe a little closer to the end of the year.
