Half-Life 3 has been in development limbo for what feels like an eternity, with the last sighting of Gordon Freeman being at the end of the VR first-person shooter, Half-Life Alyx. Now, 18 years later and a lot of “Half-Life 3 confirmed” statements, elements of the game’s existence has popped up.
A new update was released for Valve’s MOBA title, Deadlock. Within the update was a mention of “HLX”, which is widely believed to be the working name for the Freeman sequel.
It’s not just Deadlock either. HLX has been mentioned in other Valve titles as well, such as Dota 2 and CS2. But what is really setting the tone of discussion of a near completion of the game is how it was also mentioned along with AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR3).
This was seemingly important to Tyler McVicker, a YouTuber and self-appointed AMD watcher who believes that Half-Life 3’s imminent arrival is close because of the association with the upscaling technology. “You don’t use FSR until you’re nearly done with a game. Those AI post-processing systems are not supposed to be used for development,” McVicker said.
Be that as it may, Half-Life 3 is still nowhere to be seen but, as we mentioned, considering that the Freeman was officially released in Half-Life Alyx in return of the game’s titular character replacing him, one can hope that the game will at least be announced, never mind released, sooner rather than later.
