Nothing has unveiled a special version of its Phone (2a) Plus, called the Community Edition, featuring a glow-in-the-dark back panel with a green graphic pattern. This limited-edition design is the result of a community-driven competition, where the company invited its fans to showcase their creativity.

The contest involved four stages, with each stage’s winner collaborating with Nothing’s design team to bring their concepts to life. The first stage, focusing on hardware design, was won by Astrid Vanhuyse and Kenta Akasaki, who were inspired by the natural glow of fireflies. They worked with Design Director Adam Bates and CMF Designer Lucy Birley to create an “analog” glow effect that relies purely on daylight to illuminate in the dark, without any electrical power from the phone.

In the second stage, Andrés Mateos developed six custom wallpapers to complement the device’s unique look. The third stage winner, Ian Henry Simmonds, designed exclusive packaging for the Community Edition, while Sonya Palma, the winner of the final stage, created the marketing campaign with the slogan “Find your light. Capture your light”.

The Phone (2a) Plus Community Edition retains the specifications of the original model, featuring a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7350 Pro, with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The phone’s camera setup includes three 50MP lenses for its main, ultra-wide and selfie snapper, while a 5,000mAh battery with 50W charging capacity powers the device.

Nothing says the only 1,000 units of the Phone (2a) Plus Community Edition will be sold worldwide. In Malaysia, only a total of 25 will be offered through Crossover’s website starting from 16 November 2024 at RM1,999, which is the same price as the original version.
